Schedule your first change

Create a schedule with a start and an end, add a change, check the preview, and schedule it.

In this tutorial you'll make a schedule that changes a metaobject entry's heading for a weekend and puts it back on Monday. The same steps work for any kind of change.

Before you start

You need a metaobject definition with at least one entry, such as a homepage banner. Metaobjects are always available, so no extra access is needed. To change products, prices or menus instead, Metascheduler asks for that access when you add the change.

Create the schedule

  1. Start a new schedule

In Metascheduler, open Calendar and select New schedule, or select a day on the calendar to start on that date. Choose Start blank.

  2. Name it

Give it a name you'll recognise on the calendar, like Weekend banner. Nothing is saved until you save for the first time.

  3. Choose the timing

Under How it runs, choose Window. Set Starts to Saturday at 09:00 and Reverts to Monday at 09:00. The Time zone is your store's unless you change it.

    How a schedule runsTry it
StartEnd: revertBefore: your store as it isAfter: back to how it was
Changes at the start and reverts at the end, like an Event.Pick a start and an end. At the end, each change reverts, sets another value, or stays, as you choose. Use it for sales and campaigns.
  4. Add a change

Under Changes, select Add change, then:

    1. Pick Metaobject fields.
    2. Choose the metaobject definition and the entries to change.
    3. Check the heading field and type the new heading. Only the fields you check change.
    4. Under At the end, keep Revert, so the heading goes back on Monday.
  5. Check the summary

The Summary beside the editor shows what will happen: how many items change, when it next runs, a Preview of up to 5 items per change (now, at the start and at the end), and any Conflicts with other schedules that change the same items at the same time.

  6. Schedule it

Select Schedule. The schedule moves from Draft to Scheduled, and appears on the calendar. To keep working on it first, select Save as draft.

The schedule editor: timing and changes on the left, the summary on the right.

Watch it run

At the start time, the schedule becomes Live: Metascheduler saves each entry's current heading, then writes the new one. At the end, it checks that the heading is still what it wrote, and puts the old one back.

Each start and end shows in Activity, with every item's result and its value before and after.

Open the schedule and select Run now to make its changes immediately instead of waiting. On a live schedule, Run now reverts it now.

Change your mind

  • Pause stops anything new from starting. Anything live still reverts at its end time.
  • Unschedule moves a scheduled schedule back to drafts.
  • Archive stops it for good. Anything live still reverts at its end.
  • Once a schedule has started, its timing type and start are fixed, but you can still move the end.
