# Follow a Shopify rollout

> Add changes that Rollouts can't make, like prices and menus, so they start and end with a rollout.

Shopify Rollouts schedules themes, checkout and accounts settings, discounts and catalogs. It can't change menus, prices, pages, products or metaobjects, and apps can't add changes to a rollout. Metascheduler can make those changes **on the rollout's clock**: they start when the rollout starts and revert when it ends.

Following a rollout is on every plan, including Free.

## See your rollouts

Open **Rollouts** in Metascheduler. It lists your store's rollouts with their status, type, dates, how many buyers they reach, Shopify's changes and your schedules that follow them. Rollouts also show on the calendar, outlined with a dashed border.

Metascheduler never changes a rollout. To edit one, select **Open in Shopify**.

> **Rollout details**
>
> To name exactly what a rollout changes (which theme, discount or checkout), Metascheduler needs the optional **Rollout details** access. Without it, those changes show as **Can't be shown**, and everything else still works.

## Add changes to a rollout

### 1. Open the rollout

In **Rollouts**, open the rollout and select **Add changes to this rollout**. The schedule editor opens with **Follow a rollout** chosen and the rollout picked. You can also choose **Follow a rollout** under **How it runs** in any schedule.

### 2. Choose what happens when it ends

Under **When the rollout ends**, choose **Revert my changes** or **Keep my changes**. Shopify doesn't tell apps whether a rollout was rolled back or applied, so you decide here. A Launch keeps its changes by default; anything else reverts.

### 3. Choose what happens if it's paused

Under **If the rollout is paused**, choose **Revert while it's paused** or **Keep my changes**. Reverted changes are made again when the rollout resumes.

### 4. Add your changes and schedule it

Add changes as you would for any schedule, then select **Schedule**.

Try the choices here:

## What happens when

| The rollout | Your schedule |
| --- | --- |
| Is a draft or scheduled | Waits. If the rollout's planned dates move, the schedule's dates on the calendar follow. |
| Becomes active | Makes its changes. |
| Is paused | Reverts, or stays as it is, as you chose. |
| Concludes or is archived | Reverts or keeps its changes, as you chose. |
| Is deleted | Ends as if it had concluded, and tells you in **Needs you**. |

A rollout's status can reach Metascheduler a little after the planned time. Metascheduler checks more often around a rollout's start and end so your changes follow closely.

You can also add a **Start offset in minutes** or **End offset in minutes** to start or end before or after the rollout does. A negative number starts before it.

## Partial traffic and experiments

A rollout can reach only some of your buyers, or be an experiment with a control group. Your changes in Metascheduler apply to **every buyer**, because menus, prices and pages aren't split by traffic. Metascheduler warns you about this in the editor and once in **Needs you**.

> **Prices and discounts together**
>
> If a rollout turns on discounts or catalogs while your schedule changes prices or publishing, the editor warns that they may clash. Check the combined price before the sale starts.
