# Schedule your first change

> Create a schedule with a start and an end, add a change, check the preview, and schedule it.

In this tutorial you'll make a schedule that changes a metaobject entry's heading for a weekend and puts it back on Monday. The same steps work for any kind of change.

## Before you start

You need a metaobject definition with at least one entry, such as a homepage banner. Metaobjects are always available, so no extra access is needed. To change products, prices or menus instead, Metascheduler asks for that access when you add the change.

## Create the schedule

### 1. Start a new schedule

In Metascheduler, open **Calendar** and select **New schedule**, or select a day on the calendar to start on that date. Choose **Start blank**.

### 2. Name it

Give it a name you'll recognise on the calendar, like `Weekend banner`. Nothing is saved until you save for the first time.

### 3. Choose the timing

Under **How it runs**, choose **Window**. Set **Starts** to Saturday at 09:00 and **Reverts** to Monday at 09:00. The **Time zone** is your store's unless you change it.

### 4. Add a change

Under **Changes**, select **Add change**, then:

1. Pick **Metaobject fields**.
2. Choose the metaobject definition and the entries to change.
3. Check the **heading** field and type the new heading. Only the fields you check change.
4. Under **At the end**, keep **Revert**, so the heading goes back on Monday.

### 5. Check the summary

The **Summary** beside the editor shows what will happen: how many items change, when it next runs, a **Preview** of up to 5 items per change (now, at the start and at the end), and any **Conflicts** with other schedules that change the same items at the same time.

### 6. Schedule it

Select **Schedule**. The schedule moves from **Draft** to **Scheduled**, and appears on the calendar. To keep working on it first, select **Save as draft**.

## Watch it run

At the start time, the schedule becomes **Live**: Metascheduler saves each entry's current heading, then writes the new one. At the end, it checks that the heading is still what it wrote, and puts the old one back.

Each start and end shows in **Activity**, with every item's result and its value before and after.

> **Want to see it now?**
>
> Open the schedule and select **Run now** to make its changes immediately instead of waiting. On a live schedule, **Run now** reverts it now.

## Change your mind

- **Pause** stops anything new from starting. Anything live still reverts at its end time.
- **Unschedule** moves a scheduled schedule back to drafts.
- **Archive** stops it for good. Anything live still reverts at its end.
- Once a schedule has started, its timing type and start are fixed, but you can still move the end.
